The Jennifer Manitt Memorial Award

This Award was established by the family and friends of Jennifer Pratt Manitt after her passing in March 2018. Through their generosity, an award of $500 will be offered annually to an empathic nursing student.

The decision to create this Award was motivated by the excellent care provided by 2 Dawson College Nursing students and to serve as a tribute to the compassion Jennifer provided her patients for over 40 years.

Born in Lachine in 1951, Jennifer was part of the first graduating class of Dawson College’s Nursing program in 1972. She embodied the qualities of a caring nurse from her earliest days in the profession. She began her career at the Montreal Children’s Hospital and joined the Royal Victoria Hospital in 1976. She worked closely with Dr. Balfour Mount in establishing the Royal Victoria palliative care unit. Dr. Mount is acknowledged as the father of palliative medicine in North America.

We thank all donors for their generosity, support for education and their commitment to keep this memorial fund growing and benefitting others in Jennifer’s memory.
