Chinese Elementary – Level 1A (Online)
This course is an elementary course, designed to help learners get started quickly in Chinese, including learning basic Chinese pronunciation rules, writing some commonly used Chinese characters, learning basic Chinese conversations, and acquiring simple cultural common sense. Focus on listening and speaking, students can quickly master pronunciation and daily expressions while building confidence in learning Chinese.
While cultivating listening and speaking skills, the course will also help learners improve reading and writing skills. Meanwhile, learners can master basic vocabulary to prepare for higher-level learning.

Teaching & Learning Activities
The course incorporates various teaching and learning activities to help learners build a solid understanding of basic vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure. Specifically, they are:
1. Vocabulary practice
- Flashcards
- Matching activities: Match characters with their meaning or Pinyin to reinforce recognition.
- Contextual practice: Use vocabulary in sentences or dialogues from the book.
2. Speaking activities
- Listening and imitation
- Dialogues: Practice dialogues provided in the books and focus on fluency and pronunciation.
- Pair work: Ask and answer questions in pairs.
- Role play: Simulate real-life scenarios using the vocabulary and grammar learned.
- Group discussion
3.Writing practice
- Character writing: Practice stroke order and structure of new characters
- Sentence and short paragraph construction: Create sentences and write short paragraphs using new vocabulary and grammar points.
- Brainstorming
- Peer review and feedback
Learning Objectives
By the end of the course, students will:
- Pronounce Chinese words accurately using Pinyin and proper tones through participating in basic conversations, such as introducing, asking for directions, or ordering food.
- Acquire basic grammar points, such as word order, questions formation, and negation as well as the usage of different vocabulary related to everyday topics, such as numbers, time, family, and daily activities.
- Recognize and write 100 characters and understand simple sentences, short texts, and dialogues in the textbook.
- Gain introductory knowledge of Chinese culture, such as greetings, family dynamic, and festivals.
