Pre IELTS Preparation (Online)

Prerequisite: Pre-Intermediate Level (level 3-4)
Overall Goals:
This is a course for students who need to take the IELTS exam, but whose level of English is too low to achieve a good score or below a certain level required to join our IELTS preparation course. Throughout the course, the teacher emphasizes the development of an understanding of the IELTS exam and common topics, while also aiming to enhance the overall English proficiency and test-taking abilities of IELTS candidates.
Students in this course will have six hours of classes per week, including a period of guided self-study. Our Online Pre-IELTS program is a skill-based, student-centered preparatory course. Students will be learning through lectures, exercises, assignments and simulated mock tests. Pre-IELTS candidates will also learn the basic techniques and test-taking strategies pertaining to each of the four skills: reading, speaking, listening, and writing.

Intended Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Develop an understanding of the IELTS exam structure and content.
  • Enhance proficiency in common IELTS topics, including the environment, culture, health, and education.
  • Develop effective study skills conducive to IELTS exam preparation.
  • Expand academic and overall English vocabulary.
  • Comprehend and respond effectively to question prompts.
  • Practice note-taking skills and paragraph development.

Methodology:

  • Teaching the macro strategies and PEO techniques which are dominant in various IELTS skills.
  • Practicing and simulating exam scenarios for listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills, incorporating practical templates.
  • Pair and group activities on productive skills such as speaking and writing with more emphasis on the integrated tasks and the delicate points to be applied in tackling them accordingly.
  • Introducing all IELTS basic question types and techniques in each of the four skills to respond to them successfully.
  • Reading activities (Skimming, scanning, functional and closed reading skills, process of elimination and macro skills applicable in the context of reading and listening skills).
  • Grammar activities targeting at tenses, points, and written structures necessary for using educational videos, PDF files and PowerPoints related to IELTS skills and sub-scales to maximize the effectiveness of the applied methodologies.
