Opportunities and Helpful Reminders

  • Online registration for the English or French Exit Exam begins Mar. 10 for eligible students and closes March 28. Go to MyDawson → My College Services –> Exit Exam. For details visit https://www.dawsoncollege.qc.ca/registrar/exit-exam/.
  • Mar. 10 is Caribbean Carnival Day! From 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM in the Lower Atrium, join us for an afternoon of live music, dancing, costumes and guest speakers. Free Caribbean bites in Conrod’s (2F.4) from 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM (or until we run out).
  • On Mar. 11 check out our International Tea House from 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM in Oliver’s (2C.17). The Persian Club and the Dawson Chinese Culture Club will serve traditional teas and light refreshments.
  • Try your hand at Chinese Calligraphy in a workshop on Mar. 12 from 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM in Conrod’s (2F.4). Hosted by Qinyi, a student in CRLT.
  • Pet Therapy with Jimmy Zoo is back! For a little stress relief pop into Oliver’s (2C.17) from 11:30 AM – 2:30 PM on Mar. 12.
  • On Mar. 12 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM in room 4C.1, join Kanerahtiio Hemlock for a documentary focusing on Native people and issues. The viewing of Wilma Mankiller: First Woman Chief of the Cherokee Nation will be followed by an open discussion.
  • Calling all trivia buffs! Mar. 13 is Trivia Night in Oliver’s (2C.17). Doors open at 5:30 PM and trivia starts at 6:00 PM. Brought to you by our Campus Life team.
  • On Mar. 13 check out the International Food Fest from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM in Conrod’s (2F.4) or the DSU mini food fest for evening students from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.
  • Take in the Wellness Workshop on Mar. 14 from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM in 6B.4. Gain perspective on how to heal your body with naturopathic remedies, ancient Chinese practices and spiritual healing.
  • Class of 2025 – want graduation photos? You must reserve a spot for Mar. 13 or 14. To sign up, go to www.lassmanstudios.com and use Dawson’s School ID.
  • On Mar. 17, Mid-term Assessments will be available to students. Go to MyDawson → LEA –> Grades –> Mid-term Assessments.

Desjardins Scholarships

smiling studentThe Desjardins Foundation is a charitable organization run by the Desjardins Group. For 50 years, the Foundation has been awarding scholarships to encourage young people to pursue post-secondary education. Each year, Desjardins awards thousands of scholarships to its members to recognize the perseverance, commitment, and efforts of students from any level of post-secondary studies. These scholarships are meant to support young people who shine in ways other than academic achievement!

Applications will be accepted from Mar. 1 to 31. Applications will be reviewed through April and May, and scholarship recipients will be announced in June. The scholarship amount for CEGEP students is $1500.

A Spicy Konjac Eating Contest will take place in Conrod's (2F.4) on Mar. 11 from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM and from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM. Four contestants will be selected per round and will be given 60 minutes to chow down. The first to finish will be rewarded.

There will be a Fashion Show on Mar. 12 from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM in the Upper Atrium (Theatre side). Come dressed in your traditional clothing. Invite your friends to participate, watch amazing performances and take pictures at the photobooth.

Registration will be open until Mar. 8.

The Math Department invites you to celebrate International Day of Mathematics on Mar. 14 from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM in room 5B.16.

This year's theme is: Mathematics, Arts and Creativity.

Learn about:

  • using a 2000-year-old algorithm to compute the greatest common denominator (1:00 PM - 2:15 PM)
  • geometric puzzles and tiling patterns (2:30 PM - 3:10 PM)
  • hyperbolas/the Anning-Erdos Theorem (3:10 PM - 3:40 PM)
  • the Golden Ratio: The Beauty of Math or the Math of Beauty (3:40 PM - 4:10 PM)

Explore McGill

A day for Quebec high school and CEGEP students to explore McGill University

Take part in educational workshops at McGill faculties, tour the downtown campus, and enjoy a catered lunch. Learn about all the options available to you and get a sense of what the next step in your education might look like.

The next Explore McGill will be held on March 27 from 8:45 AM - 3:00 PM. Registration is recommended.

Dawson to Host 2026 Basketball National Championship

four women basketball players facing the camera, one of them holding a basketballOn Feb. 14, the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) announced that Dawson College will be the official host of the 2026 CCAA Women's Division 1 Basketball National Championship. The event will take place from Mar. 18 - 21, 2026 in the Tony Proudfoot Gymnasium.

In their news release, the CCAA noted that the Dawson Blues Women's Division 1 Basketball Team has achieved remarkable success, including two silver medals and two bronze medals over the last nine years.

The first-ever Dawson College Model United Nations (DCMUN) conference took place Jan. 17-19. As noted by participant Wilhelm Pamba, this event goes beyond debate. It’s a creative way to tackle some of the biggest issues in society right now and to develop important skills like public speaking and diplomacy.
