Academic Standing and Advancement Policy
To be in good standing and to register unconditionally, students must meet both the academic standing requirements of the College and the academic standing and advancement requirements of the Electronics Engineering Technology Program.

Program Policy
Academic Standing
Students’ standing is determined at the end of each year according to the following regulations:
Students will be allowed to remain in the Program under the following conditions:
- Students must pass a minimum of 50% of their required Electronics Engineering Technology courses (243).
- Students must not fail the same two Electronics Engineering Technology courses twice;
- Students must not fail any one course for the third time;
- Students must complete the Program within six years from the time they were first admitted to the Electronics Engineering Technology program.
Failure to meet any of the above conditions will result in expulsion from the program and the college.
Advancement
- Students are allowed to advance to the following semester of studies under the following conditions:
- To advance to term 3, students can not have more than one Electronics Engineering Technology course and two general education courses outstanding from year one;
- To advance to term 4, students can not have more than two program specific courses outstanding from the first three terms;
- To advance to term 5, students can not have more than one program specific course, and three general education courses outstanding from the first four terms;
- To advance to term 6, students can not have more than one program specific course outstanding from the first five terms.
Appeal Mechanisms
Students who fail to comply with this Standing and Advancement Policy will be expelled from the Program and College. Expelled students have the right to appeal the expulsion to the College Academic Standing Appeals Committee.
Professional Conduct
Students are expected to exhibit appropriate behaviour referred to as “professional conduct”. The student must be respectful of College property and among other things display consistent courtesy, teamwork and cooperative behaviour toward faculty, staff and fellow students. Professional conduct must be displayed in all activities associated with the program. Students who exhibit inappropriate behaviour may be removed from the program. The procedure for removing students from the program on the basis of professional conduct will be applied in accordance with the College’s Institutional Student Evaluation Policy (ISEP).
Some examples of inappropriate behaviour are:
- Malicious, inappropriate or dangerous use of equipment;
- Display of behaviour detrimental to the learning or work environment (e.g. rudeness, interference with other students’ learning, etc.);
- Unethical practices of computer usage and circuit design, including misappropriation of others’ work, unauthorized copying, distribution of software and circuit designs, and destruction of other students’ work;
- Refusal to follow instructions given by faculty or staff regarding the safe use of equipment and facilities both at Dawson College and on location;
- Theft of any kind within Dawson College;
- Disregard for public and private property;
- Disregard for the privacy of individuals;
Expelled students may appeal the decision to the Academic Dean.
