Meet Dawson’s first 2SLGBTQIA+ Community Worker
Hello! I’m James McKye, the new 2SLGBTQIA+ Community Worker at Dawson. This new position is primarily to support 2SLGBTQIA+ students, but that can happen in many different ways.
I would like to offer myself as a resource to Dawson staff and teachers as well. Feel free to invite me to drop by your class or department or to give a workshop/presentation. It would be my pleasure!
Subjects I can cover include:
- harm reduction
- trans health
- barriers to access for 2SLGBTQIA+ people
- HIV/HepC/STIs
- sex work and sex work law reform
- solidarity/mutual aid
- stigma and criminalization
- queer history
- arts and activism
There are many more subjects that I would love to develop that could complement your work or course work so please don’t hesitate to reach out. I would be happy to cater to your needs or suggest an existing community resource.
It will be a slow roll-out as I develop the service and get a permanent visible space so I really appreciate your promotion of these resources and your referrals through the SOARS form. For now, students who are looking to connect for support can MIO me to set up an appointment.
Looking forward to working with you!
