Four Dawson students presented abstract at Lunar and Planetary Science conference

March 22nd, 2023

When it was time to submit an abstract to the Lunar and Planetary Science Conference in Texas, the Dawson student team was not sure which category described them best.

“I think we are the first CEGEP students to present research at the LPI! Undergraduate was the category closest to us,” said Darcy Loane-Billings (Pure & Applied Science), lead author of the abstract and second-year student at Dawson.

International Women’s Day at Dawson

March 8th, 2023

Each year on March 8, International Women's Day marks the day when we are all invited to reflect on the role gender plays in our lives, work and the planet.

Have you ever wondered why March 8? Well, it all started in New York City on March 8, 1857, when female textile workers marched in protest of unfair working conditions and unequal rights for women. It was one of the first strikes organized by working women.

The theme this year is DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality. The goal is to highlight the need for inclusive and transformative technology and digital education.

At Dawson, there will be two events marking the day. One is a lunch and book sale co-organized by the DSSU and DTU on March 8 in 7C.5 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. The money raised via the book sale and donations will be donated to Chez Doris, a nearby shelter that offers a wide range of services and programs to meet the basic needs of vulnerable and homeless women. A light lunch will be offered for staff and faculty (in limited quantities).

The second event is organized by the Women/Gender Studies Certificate which is holding a Renaming and Reclaiming of Metro Stations activity and home-baked goods sale in Conrod's (2F.4) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The funds raised will go towards scholarships for Dawson students.

Dawson’s first Cégep en spectacle packed the house

February 8th, 2023

Dawson's very first Cégep en spectacle talent show was a great success. On Feb. 2, the audience of 200 people enjoyed 22 acts, all 100% Dawson student talent. At the end of the night, judges Andréa Cole (Dean of Creative and Applied Arts), Jacinta Luis (Faculty, Music) and visiting guest judge Chad Lindsay, a jazz music teacher from Vanier College, chose Aliyah Sarimazi to be Dawson's entry in the regional contest on March 25 at Cégep du Vieux-Montréal. The audience chose Clara Nhiên Lévesque as the fan favourite and she will be the replacement entry should Aliyah not be able to compete in the regionals.

In addition to a fun evening, a total of $1,600 and three big grocery bags of nonperishable food were collected for Moisson Montréal.
