Please help restock our Food Bank

February 2nd, 2022

The Financial Aid Food bank has been active throughout the pandemic and subsequent closures. As many as 20 students can drop in over a week. Our regular supporters have been bringing supplies throughout the past two years. However, our shelves are starting to show some serious gaps in supplies. Here is a list of needed items: rice, quinoa, bulgur, barley, dry legumes, canned proteins (salmon, corned beef, sardines, tuna, etc.) canned fruits, canned vegetables, boxed nut milk(s), oat milk, rice milk, evaporated milk, coconut milk, instant coffee, tea, herbal tea, cereal, peanut butter, jelly, honey, personal hygiene products (shampoo, soap, toothpaste, deodorant, etc).

Donations of non-perishable food and hygiene products can be dropped off at the Financial Aid Office: 4E2.

Get your gifts wrapped at Alexis Nihon by Dawson volunteers

December 15th, 2021

Get your gifts wrapped by Dawson volunteers every day and many evenings until end of day on Dec. 24. Your gift will be wrapped for a donation of $4 or more depending on the size of the package.

Our gift-wrapping station is located on the Mezzanine level of Alexis Nihon Mall right next to Cultures and the food court. Your donation will help us offer community-building and Living Campus projects that contribute to the well-being of our students. Thanks to Alexis Nihon for providing the store and all the gift-wrapping supplies. Thanks to the more than 200 students, employees and friends who are giving their time to staff all the store hours.

Still time to get Holiday gifts for Batshaw children

December 1st, 2021

There is still time to make a child’s wish to Santa come true by participating in the Batshaw Youth and Family Centres annual Holiday Gift Campaign.

So far members of the Dawson community have covered 64 children! There are three teenagers still waiting to be matched for gifts. Dawson organizer Janice Harvey (Faculty, History) hopes some big departments and teams may come forward to cover the remaining children, probably about 30 still left. Many are teenagers asking for gift certificates.

Contact Janice Harvey before Dec. 10 if you would like to participate: jharvey@dawsoncollege.qc.ca

We are proud to celebrate our Fall 2021 Awards cohort of 35 exceptional Dawson College students. Their involvement in student life, commitment to community service and determination to succeed at CEGEP enrich the Dawson community and make us hopeful about the future. Congratulations to our students! Thank you to all the donors, teachers and employees who make the awards possible.

Giving Tuesday is Nov. 30

November 17th, 2021

Giving Tuesday is a global movement that encourages individuals to support their favourite cause and make an impact in their community. The date of Giving Tuesday this year is Nov. 30, but the benefits of giving last all year.

“I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver.” (Maya Angelou)

Dawson has participated in this activity in the past with great success. This year, we are launching a program for giving that not only helps various members of our community and supports community-building projects, but one that also touches our hearts.

On Tuesday, Nov. 23, we will begin a one-week countdown to Giving Tuesday on our social media channels:

Dawson is a giving community by nature, rising above even the challenges posed by the pandemic. Our generosity knows no bounds!

For years, the Alexis-Nihon shopping centre across the street has been like a second home to the Dawson community – from dashing over (through the tunnel in bad weather) for lunch to getting groceries or doing a little shopping. Dawson will see an extension of its relationship with Alexis-Nihon this holiday season when all proceeds…

Student-initiated Atwater Community Pantry fills a void

November 3rd, 2021

The pandemic brought food insecurity to the fore after job losses, isolation and uncertainty about the future. A group of Dawson students who saw the hardship firsthand by volunteering at the soup kitchen Resilience on the corner of Ste-Catherine and Atwater seized on an idea to create another avenue for food distribution that was anonymous, non-judgmental, accessible at all hours and throughout the four seasons.
