Creative Change Maker Awards to be presented Sept. 21

The Creative Collective for Change will be hosting an event at the Warren G. Flowers Art Gallery at Dawson on Sept. 21 at 5:30 PM to present Creative Change Maker Awards to three recipients.
Congratulations to Kessy Ininahazwe and Elishah Alphonse for their project "Can't Bare No More", Kylie Brown for her video "Say Gay" and Sarah Browne for her poster "Love Beyond Culture" (pictured).
From Sept. 18-21, the gallery will host an exhibit of the student artworks submitted to the Creative Collective for Change (CC4C).

Three hundred and two days into the Dawson community’s 1,000 Species in 1,000 Days campaign, the number of species identified is now at 749!

Dawson Homecoming: what you should know ahead of Sept. 23

Dawson’s first ever Homecoming on Saturday, Sept. 23 is only three weeks away!
Here’s what you need to do:
- Get your early-bird lunch special: Those who pre-order their Homecoming Burgundy Lion lunch will benefit from a discount. Menu* and tickets** here
*for kids 10 and under, a children's meal will be available for purchase on site
**a small portion of each lunch ticket will go to the Dawson Foundation to support students

- Clue by Jonathan Lynn & Sandy Rustin, directed by Jonathan Monro (Second Studio, Year Two, Group Two) Wednesday, Oct. 4 to Saturday, Oct. 7 at 7:30 PM
- Henry V by William Shakespeare, directed by Michael E Hughes (First Major) Previews at 7:30 pm Monday and Tuesday Nov. 13 and 14
- Opening at 7:30 PM Wednesday, Nov. 15
- Playing at 7:30 PM Nov. 15 to 18 and Nov. 23 - 25

Ken Fogel presents new book to Library

Ken Fogel (retired faculty, Computer Science) returned to Dawson on May 25 to present a copy of his new book, Transitioning to Java. The book will help non-Java developers transition from whatever language they are using now to learning Java.
Claire Elliott of the Library team was on hand to receive the book. She said it will be proudly displayed in the Books by Faculty bookshelf (visible in the photo)
Moving toward 1,000 species on campus

In the past two weeks, the Dawson community has observed 10 new species, made 83 new observations and added one new observer to our Dawson Community-Campus Biodiversity Network on the free app iNaturalist.
These observations are moving us closer to our goal of identifying 1,000 species in 1,000 days!
As of May 31, the total species count is at 548. Everyone is welcome to contribute to the project. Download the free app iNaturalist, join the Dawson community project and start observing! To count, the species must be observed within Dawson’s city-block campus.
