Maxwell Jones has been confirmed to the position of Dean in the Science, Medical Studies and Engineering sector by the Board of Governors.

Max has been at Dawson since 2009 working as a Support Staff in Human Resources, the Office of Academic Development and the Arts, Literature and Communication program. He also was a faculty member of Dawson’s Centre for Training and Development, teaching English as a Second Language.

Dawson’s Div. 1 Women’s and Men’s Basketball teams off to Nationals!

March 8th, 2023

It was a busy and exciting weekend for our women's and men's Div 1 basketball teams! They were both involved in the provincial playoffs after having both emerged victorious in the quarterfinals played earlier in the week.

The playoffs were held at Cegep Edward Montpetit. In the semis, the women faced the team from Champlain-St. Lambert. Dawson came out strong and led 38-29 at the half. They kept it up in the second half for a 71-62 victory. This win earned them a spot in the upcoming CCAA Nationals. The gold medal game on Sunday saw Dawson take on Saint-Jean. Despite starting off fast in the 1st quarter leading 16-7, the women eventually succumbed to the strong Saint-Jean team 70-54. We wish the women luck as they head off to Calgary, Alberta next week.

The men were up against Jean-de-Brebeuf in the semis. An early lead by Dwson became a tight game in the 4th quarter. Dawson managed to hold on for a 61-56 win. In the gold medal game, the Blues battled against rival Vanier. A back-and-forth first half turned into a dominant second half by the Blues, who won 82-68. The men win gold! they too are off to Nationals next week at Mohawk College in Ontario. Best of luck!

An evening with Oliver Jones at Dawson March 10

February 22nd, 2023

Honouring legendary Montrealer and musician Oliver Jones and inspiring students are the objectives of a special evening being organized by members of Dawson’s Legacy Club with support from Dawson staff, including the Campus Life and Leadership team, Community, Recreation and Leadership Training, Continuing Education and Community Services and the Communications Office.

“Oliver grew up in the Little Burgundy neighbourhood, home to the historic Union United Church, which is very close to the former Selby Campus of Dawson College," said Simeon Pompey of the organizing committee. "Through his work/fame, he has influenced a lot of young Black people in Little Burgundy and Montreal to pursue higher education. It is very fitting that the College has endorsed the initiative to honour him.

“Directly and indirectly, young people’s lives were positively impacted. Through his charity work, Dr. Jones supported initiatives to help youth pursue post-secondary education.”

The evening will include performances, tributes and opportunities for students to ask Dr. Jones questions. There will be guests from community organizations but the VIPs will be Black Dawson students and students who are personally invited.
