On April 8, the Psychology Profile is organizing two events that celebrate the advances in brain science and promote awareness of the mind, body and mental health connection.
The first event is a guest talk by Dr. Mike Robinson at 10:05 a.m. (via Zoom). His talk entitled "Generating Excessive Desire by Optogenetic Stimulation of the Central Amygdala" will be hosted in the context of a General Psychology class. All are welcome to join us at 10:05. It’s finally time to celebrate! We will have a special celebration the evening of Thursday, June 16 to recognize all those who have retired and all those who have arrived at the major milestone of 25 years of service to Dawson since July 1, 2019.
The evening will include a cocktail hour and a dinner. Dawson’s traditional Recognition of Service aims to treat our long-serving and dedicated employees to a very special night.

Decolonization and Indigenization Studies, Women's and Gender Studies, Resist Violence and the Creative Collective for Change present an online conversation with Dr. Catherine Kinewesquao Richardson. She will speak about Cultural safety and managing risky conversations in the classroom on March 24 at 2:45 p.m.

Kristopher Woofter, Rebecca Million and Ben Lander have organized a free event open to the public for Indigenous Peoples Week. The film Blood Quantum by local Indigenous filmmaker and Dawson graduate Jeff Barnaby will be screened and then Jeff will be there to take questions afterwards.
The event will be in the Dawson Theatre on March 30 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
To mark International Women’s Day this year, the Women’s/Gender Studies students and faculty, as well as members of the larger college community, engaged in a re-naming/re-claiming activity whereby Montreal metro stations were renamed by participants after women they find inspiring.
The event, which took place on March 8, in Conrod’s from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., saw participants affix labels sporting the names of their chosen inspirational figures on a large blank metro map. Some inspiring figures were drawn from contemporary cultures, while others were figures from both the distant, and the recent, past, like Betty White. Some women, like Mary Two-Axe Earley, Harriet Tubman and Angela Davis, were social activists, while others are celebrities (e.g. Oprah, Zendaya, Christiane Amanpour). Participants were also invited to complete colourful cards on why they chose their particular figures.
Over $400 was raised to benefit our Financial Aid Food Bank from a bake sale in connection with the activity where faculty and students sold baked goods, fashioned by members of our W/GS community. A button-making activity where engaged students produced their own pins sporting the W/GS logo was also quite popular!
