Beloved Dawson fundraiser Artists in Bloom will be April 18

Artists in Bloom will be back for the 26th edition on the evening of Thursday, April 18!
The beloved Dawson fundraiser invites those who appreciate art and those who love to support young people to come and enjoy appetizers and drinks while watching student artists create works of art live. Later in the evening, the art works are auctioned off. In addition, a curated selection of art prints by student artists will be available for sale.
This year, all proceeds from ticket sales, the art auction and art print sales will benefit Dawson Athletics, providing some essential funding to allow student athletes to travel to away games.
Dawson is presenting the Canadian premiere of Leopoldstadt

Sir Tom Stoppard’s play Leopoldstadt will have its Canadian premiere at the Dawson College Theatre on Wednesday, Feb. 7. Directed by Matt Holland, the play features the 2024 graduating class of Dawson’s Professional Theatre program.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for our students because Sir Tom Stoppard is a renowned, award-winning British playwright with a 60-year career in theatre,” said Professional Theatre faculty member Leah Esau. “He is best known for his screenplay Shakespeare in Love (1998), as well as his plays Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, and Travesties.”

Tickets on sale now for Henry V

The Professional Theatre Department proudly presents Henry V by William Shakespeare, performed by the graduating actors. This bilingual production, directed by Michael E. Hughes, features dialogue in both French and English.
Admission is $5 for Dawson staff, faculty, researchers, and students. Free previews are available on Monday, November 13 and Tuesday, November 14. All shows start at 7:30 PM.

Appreciating math from another perspective

Students in Garry Ka Lok Chu’s course Language of Math and Computer Science: Introduction to Mathematics will be sharing their math inspired art at a special exhibit the morning of Nov. 28 from 10 AM to 12 PM. The student artwork will be exhibited in Conrod’s (2F.4).
Garry “would like the community to understand Math-related Art and appreciate Math from another perspective.”

Henry The V rehearsals have begun

The third-year students from the Professional Theatre Program have started practicing for Shakespeare's Henry V. This bilingual version is thrilling, featuring both English and French language texts.
The lead role of Henry, affectionately known as Hal, is portrayed by a group of five actors. Here, Henry invades France to rightfully claim his throne. Directed by Michael E. Hughes, the show will run from November 13 to November 25 at 7:30 PM. Ticket sales will begin in November.
PAY WHAT YOU CAN PREVIEWS will be held on Monday, November 13 and Tuesday, November 14.
Dawson students, staff, and faculty can attend for $5, while regular admission is $15 and students/seniors pay $1.

Intercollegiate Ped Days will be online January 9-10, 2024.
The theme is Shifting Landscapes: Shared Practices in a Changing CEGEP System.
The introduction of Bill 96 (Law 14), undertaking multiple large program revisions, and witnessing a tectonic shift in teaching and learning due to a surge in generative AI - This year's theme crosses disciplinary boundaries to explore what it means to embrace and enact meaningful transformation in the English-language CEGEP system.
Keynote presenter Ollivier Dyens is full professor in the Département des littératures de langue française, de traduction et de création at McGill. He examines the impact of technology on humanity and has authored 14 books. He was previously Deputy Provost, Student Life and Learning at McGill.

Shirley Jackson’s Textual Hauntings: A Public Lecture by Dr. Emily Banks

This is a free public lecture by visiting U.S. scholar Emily Banks on the influence of Shirley Jackson's work. The event will be at Dawson on Friday, November 10 from 4-6 PM in room 5B.16. The lecture is co-sponsored by the Montréal Monstrum Society (MMS) and CORERISC with funding support from the FRQSC.
