Dawson gets GOLD for leadership in sustainability

It's official! AASHE announced Dawson College's GOLD rating for leadership in sustainability on their website. Congratulations Dawson community!

We have been collecting reactions by video and text to the news in preparation for this week's announcement. We will be proudly sharing these thoughts from Dawson employees, government leaders and people active in environmental issues with the media this week.

In the New Year, we will be celebrating this as best we can during the pandemic and we will certainly share the videos and reactions with our community at that time. Today, you, the members of our Dawson community, get to know the good news first!

Dawson students and graduates speak about attachment to Quebec

Richard Filion’s farewell video

Governor General’s Medal recipient rowing her way to the top

December 1st, 2020

Catherine Chénier-Gagnon returned to Dawson College on Nov. 24 to receive the Governor General’s Collegiate Bronze Medal. Academic Dean Diane Gauvin presented the medal to Catherine at an intimate and socially distanced ceremony witnessed by her parents and a few teachers.

Carmela Gumelli to serve as Interim Academic Dean

The Board of Governors appointed Carmela Gumelli to the position of Academic Dean at their Nov. 25 meeting.

Carmela will serve an interim term from Jan. 1- June 30, 2021. With the support of the managers in the Registrar’s Office and her fellow deans, Carmela will continue as Dean of Academic Systems while taking on this new role.

After working as a teacher, program coordinator and campus director at a private college, Carmela joined Dawson College in 2005 as Manager of Admissions and Scheduling. She later served as Coordinator of Academic Systems before becoming the Dean of Academic Systems in 2014. Carmela holds a Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Accounting from McGill University and is a CMA-CPA.

Carmela is looking forward to new challenges and to working more closely with faculty.

Howlett family doubles Nursing award recipients during pandemic year

The Howlett family thought that Nursing students needed extra encouragement in the context of the pandemic. This semester, four future nurses from Dawson College were honoured and encouraged by receiving the Anne-Marie Howlett Memorial Award.

The Confinement Diaries of AEC in Commercial Photography grad

Carlos Viani (Class of 2009, AEC in Commercial Photography) spent a few months during the pandemic capturing ordinary people living through extraordinary times in St-Henri.

North-South alumni mobilize support for Nicaraguan community

Six alumni of the North-South Studies Profile in Social Science moved into action in early November when they heard that Tuapi, Nicaragua was in the line of Hurricane Eta.

Diane Gauvin will be our new Director General

November 19th, 2020

Diane Gauvin will be the new Director General of Dawson College. On Nov. 18, following a recommendation from the Selection Committee and unanimous support from Senate, the Board of Governors appointed her to a five-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2021.

Diane has strong assets to lead a vision for Dawson College and to rally and engage the community to move forward on that vision, according to the Board of Governors.
