Students applying for admission to CEGEP in the Fall of 2024 have a new option at Dawson in science.
The College plans to offer 70 seats in a new-to-Dawson pre-university program entitled Science, Computer Science and Mathematics (program code 200.C1).

Thirteen Dawson students spent their summer working on real research projects in various fields of neuroscience.
There were eight projects in partnership with Polytechnique/Ste-Justine, MNI, Douglas Institute, McGill departments of Physiology and of Pharmacology and Therapeutics. According to Neuroscience Research Group coordinator Hélène Nadeau: “some projects used images from dMRI, EEG, MRI, fMRI, MR spectroscopy, or PET modalities to probe questions related to the health of neonates, to audition in the normal population, or to pathologies such as schizophrenia, multiple sclerosis, or Alzheimer’s disease.
“Other projects relied on experiments on mice or rats, to better understand physiological mechanisms related to pathologies. In the course of the academic year, several teams worked on a large array of projects combining behavioural and EEG data.”

Three Dawson Professional Theatre students were finalists in Infinithéâtre’s The-Write-Stuff playwriting competition: Marcel Paré, Alina Ichmouratov and Elliot Million-Lovett.
Marcel`s play Cadillac took first place and Alina`s play Egg tied for second place. The plays by finalists were read by professional actors on Sept. 25 at Parc Drolet-Rachel.

A student-led project at Dawson has won the provincial Forces Avenir award in the category of Mutual Aid, Peace and Justice. On Sept. 27 during a gala in Quebec City, the award was presented to a group of Dawson graduates and students who founded the Mahsa Amini Initiative.

Out of a record 81 entries at Dawson alone, three Dawson students were selected as semifinalists for the 2023 Quebec Writers’ Federation (QWF) College Writers Award. The 2023 award will be announced at the QWF Gala on Nov. 13.

“The 17 Sustainable Development Goals” illustrated by students in the Illustration program at Dawson won the 2023 student art competition of Colleges and Institutes Canada.
“36 illustration students collaborated on this fanzine project along with Sustainable Dawson,” said Stéphanie Aubin, co-chair of and instructor in the program. “They had to create an illustration that would be evocative and powerful visually. Their illustration could be based on a personal experience or a researched fact. Each student's approach to their subject was different, which makes the project even more unique.”

Dawson College's annual Peace Week has always been a platform for insightful discussions on pressing social issues. In 2023, the theme of the 8th Annual Peace Week was "Exultation: Queer Freedoms & Futures."
This event, which was held Sept. 13-21, celebrated the vibrant history of queerness while exploring the possibilities of a world where freedom of expression, safety, and unconditional love prevail for all gender and sexual identities. The event brought together a diverse group of speakers who shared their thoughts and experiences on the path towards true liberation from oppressive norms.

When we share with colleagues that the Community Recreation and Leadership Training (CRLT) program is taking students from all three years to camp for their Fall Outdoor Experience, we get a lot of varied responses and encounter a spectrum of reactions, from envy to curiosity.
Most people, even those who live for outdoor activities and immersion in Nature, are not aware of the benefits and learnings which take place when the whole CRLT department, students and faculty, pack up for a five-day intensive at a sleep away camp over Labour Day weekend.

What’s the point? was the theme of the Humanities and Public Life Conference the week of Sept. 18 at Dawson and a graduate returned to answer this question in a most convincing way.
Andreas Nicolaidis-Gagnon (Class of 2022, Social Service) only met teacher Daniel Goldsmith after he took his Humanities course online during the pandemic. They continue to enjoy a lively discussion on What’s App about the themes in the Enlightened Consciousness course. It was through this ongoing conversation that Daniel had the idea to invite Andreas back to Dawson to speak to students about the value of Humanities courses.
