World youth coming to Dawson for Sustainable Happiness camp

March 22nd, 2023

About 50 students from colleges and polytechnics around the world will be at Dawson April 21-26 for an International Youth Camp. This event is part of the World Congress 2023 on Collective Intelligence, organized by Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) and the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics (WFCP).

Dawson overall winner of CRC Robotics competition

March 8th, 2023

Dawson’s Robotics team was the overall champion and won or placed in almost all categories at the CRC Robotics competition in mid-February. They brought home two trophies and 11 plaques.

"Our team demonstrated an incredible spirit of togetherness, creativity, ingenuity and perseverance," said Joel Trudeau, faculty mentor to the team of 30 Dawson students. "Their joy and team spirit was inspirational!"

Dear Joe Rose: a Dawson love story

The Dear Joe Rose project started with a rose tattoo in 2011. A student of Kim Simard’s showed her his tattoo and shared the story of Joe Rose. He was working to get a plaque installed in the Conrod’s student space at Dawson in honour and memory of Joe. This plaque was installed in 2013.

Nursing moving to The Montreal Forum

Visual Arts student chosen for residency at the MMFA

February 22nd, 2023

Dawson Visual Arts student Rowan Michael Draper has been selected for a prestigious residency for young digital artists at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

Starting March 6, Rowan will be spending between two to four hours a week at the museum with access to a studio and the museum’s technological equipment. The residency is until June.

Hélène Nadeau receives excellence in teaching physics award for Quebec and Nunavut

Dawson’s Hélène Nadeau has been selected by the Canadian Association of Physicists (CAP) for the 2022 CAP Award for Excellence in Teaching High School/CEGEP Physics (Quebec and Nunavut). This is “recognition of her dedication to teaching physics and the development of students’ experimental and research skills,” stated the CAP in a news release dated Jan. 17.

SPACE students attend NASA workshop at Dawson

January 25th, 2023

The first workshop on Ices in the Solar System: A Volatile-Excursion from Mercury and the Moon to the Kuiper Belt and Beyond, took place at Dawson College from Jan. 9 to 11. The workshop, the only NASA sanctioned event held outside of the United States, was co-convened by Dawson’s Richard Soare (faculty, Geography) and Jim Garvin, formerly NASA’s Chief Mars Scientist and currently the Principal Investigator of the DAVINCI Mission to Venus.

Dawson SPACE students also got to participate!

Two more students continue legacy of Anne-Marie Howlett’s passion for nursing

At Fall Awards Night on Nov. 24, Susan and Michael Howlett were at Dawson for the presentation of the Anne-Marie Howlett Memorial Award in honour of their late sister and daughter, who was in her first year of Nursing when she passed away tragically 40 years ago.
