Resources from Intercollegiate Ped Days 2022

Thanks to Dawson colleagues who contributed to the success of Intercollegiate Ped Days  2022, which took place Jan. 12-14 online. More than 50 presentations were given and over 700 participants from the English-language CEGEPs attended. The theme was Systemic Transformation: Developing Our Inclusive Practices. Resources will be available for a limited time on the Linkr site: https://app.linkreducation.com/organisation/details/news/18 . The Linkr site is free but you need to request to join using your college email account. A selection of resources will also be featured on Dawson’s Faculty Hub site.

You can still register for Dawson's Ped Day 2021, happening online this Friday, Oct. 15. Attendance prizes will be given to lucky participants at every session.

The opening plenary session is at 9 a.m. with Saul Carliner who will speak about Teaching in Turbulent Times. There is a full line-up for the day with something to interest every faculty member and professional. Of particular note is a session at 10:30 a.m. called Beyond Orange Shirt Day, which will be led by Charlie O'Connor and Laura Shea.

Ped Day is Oct. 15

Saul Carliner of Concordia University will open Dawson's Ped Day on Friday, Oct. 15 with an opening plenary address entitled Teaching in Turbulent Times.

Even without considering COVID, experts predicted disruption in higher education over the next decade or so resulting from a combination of trends in demographics, technology and society.

When COVID hit, it unearthed some additional considerations. This session first explores these disruptions, then suggests 10 specific ways these disruptions might affect the day-to-day work of CEGEP instructors, including the impacts on the student body and their expectations, the nature of courses being taught, and the nature of teaching.

New Faculty Orientation Aug. 19

Dawson’s New Faculty Orientation is on Thursday, Aug. 19. It is an introduction to college services and procedures and also covers teaching at the college level and provides tips for engaging students.

The orientation includes asynchronous and synchronous components:

  • Welcome from the Deans and Directors of Dawson
  • Competency based education and the program approach
  • Academic integrity at Dawson
  • Faculty deadlines
  • Faculty roles and responsibilities
  • Classroom scenarios and discussion
  • Professional development opportunities

This event is open to all new Day and Continuing Education faculty.
