Organizers Neal Armstrong, Michelle Lee and Carey-Ann Pawsey worked hard but are very pleased with the results from the 26th annual Artists in Bloom fundraiser on April 18. An estimated 200 people attended the evening event, which raised over $12,000 for Dawson student athletes.

“What a fun night at this year’s Artists in Bloom!” Michelle said. “The student artists from Illustration, 3D Animation, and Visual Arts brought it and dazzled everyone with their incredible talent! If you missed it, you should definitely catch the event next year!”

Art was created live while event goers socialized and enjoyed drinks and appetizers. Around 8 PM, Donna Saker of The Beat 92.5 FM and Director of Student Services Max Jones auctioned off 25 paintings that had been made that evening. A painting of a frog by student Laurie Bussières Cloutier garnered the highest bid: $1,200! The auction alone raised over $7,000.

The money raised through the Dawson Foundation will support Dawson’s Athletics department initiatives including:

  • Facilitating travel for teams to competitions and tournaments
  • Promoting inclusivity in sports
  • Creating a dedicated space for athletes called the Blues Room
  • Hosting orientations and team-building activities for all teams to enhance camaraderie and performance
  • Organizing an Awards Night to honour and recognize achievements within Dawson’s athletic community.
