Dawson earns silver for excellence in sustainable development
Less than a year after receiving the international gold nomination by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), Dawson College has won the Silver Excellence in Sustainable Development Award at the annual Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) Conference.
Director General Diane Gauvin was present to accept the honour at the conference held in Halifax last week.
“Congratulations to the entire Dawson community for its continuous and extensive efforts to drive sustainability on campus and beyond,” said Director General, Diane Gauvin.
Dawson would like to congratulate Centennial College and Seneca College for respectively receiving the gold and bronze awards in the same category. We are proud to be part of a growing group of educational institutions that are promoting and practicing sustainability in all of their endeavours.
A Leader In Sustainable Happiness
This award comes after more than a decade of work implementing a vision of sustainability and well-being into the college’s culture and portrays the work Dawson has been undertaking to drive Sustainable Development Goals innovation by working with programs of study, research and entrepreneurship initiatives, infrastructure, and the strategic plan.
Today, Dawson is a leading Canadian post-secondary institution in fostering sustainable advancement, and offers the world’s first Sustainable Happiness Certificate for staff and faculty with international partners that demonstrates how engaging in sustainability projects can increase happiness and overall well-being.
As part of its commitment to becoming Carbon Neutral Forever, the college is eager to continue strengthening its sustainability procedures, engaging students and all employees to act as socially responsible agents, and continuing to identify opportunities to evolve.
