Dawson Robotics Team excels at CRC for third year in a row!
After several months of hard work, late nights and dedicated weekends, the Canadian Robotics Competition was a great success for the Dawson Robotics Team. At any given moment, at least 20 students were working hard on the different categories of the competition daily for at least 12 hours, with an overall attendance of around 40 members.
The main competition (April 11-13) involved robots from different schools competing against each other. Students had to design, build and program robots to move around the playing field, pick up dodgeballs and shoot them into targets. However, the event also included tasks such as building a kiosk, a programming competition, putting together a webpage, producing a team video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZN1RLZ01rqg) and several presentations to show the team’s work in various categories. These events created a very busy yet dynamic environment for the students, who also had the opportunity to interact with the 24 other participating teams by visiting their kiosks.
Dawson ultimately won a total of eight awards and placed 4th overall. They won 1st place in the video, kiosk, tutorial and “best shot” categories; 2nd place in robot construction, and 3rd place in robot design. The team was also awarded the prize of “most immersive theme” for the second year in a row, in addition to winning the sportsmanship award for the 3rd year in a row. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D46aa3zyGVE
We are very proud of our Dawson Robotics Team. The team captains would like to thank all members of the team for their dedication. Special thanks to SPACE and the Dawson Foundation for their financial and logistic support, also Campus Life and the SMSE office.
