Look ahead at Dawson Blues fall season
Student athletes and the Athletics department at Dawson are looking forward to a full fall season. There was incredible student interest and participation in try-out’s this semester. For example, about 100 students tried out for volleyball!
All the sports are back this year. The College has17 teams playing 11 sports. One of the fall sports is lacrosse, which is back at Dawson after a three-year absence.
“Lacrosse is not well-known but it is the national sport of Canada and we are trying to revive it at Dawson and in Quebec,” said Sébastien Rivest, manager of Athletics. “There is a league with four teams and ours is one of them. Come check out a game but give yourself time to understand it.”
The first lacrosse game will be at Ed Meagher Field (Dawson’s home field) at Loyola High School on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 12 p.m.
Other sports that are running at the moment are: women’s hockey, soccer, rugby, golf, baseball and cross-country. The student athletes in cross-country did very well last year, the first year it was offered at Dawson. “Hopes are high for going to the nationals,” Sébastien said.
The home opener for women’s hockey will be at Westmount Arena on Sept. 30. Basketball games will get underway in October.
Many games will be taking place this coming weekend, Sept. 9-10-11. Some games are free and others require an online purchase of a low-cost ticket through Eventbrite. See the Dawson Blues website for the games schedule: https://athletics.dawsoncollege.qc.ca/
