News from the Feb. 23 Board meeting
The last meeting of the Board of Governors of Dawson College took place Feb. 23.
The Board approved the selection process for the recruitment of the next Academic Dean and created a selection committee. The members of the committee are: Michael Goldwax (Chair of the Board), Diane Gauvin (Director General), Anna Villalta (Vice-Chair of the Board), Alex McComber (Board member), Steve Hatajlo (Board member), Azra Khan (Human Resources), Émilie Richer (Faculty) and Jonathon Sumner (Chair of Senate). The new Academic Dean is expected to be appointed in June.
Chris Adam presented Dawson’s 2019-2020 Sustainability Report, with several notable achievements by the College across academics, operations, engagement, planning and administration. The report begins by highlighting the exceptional nature of the events of September 27, 2019, when all classes were paused to allow students and staff to participate in a worldwide climate march.
Here are a few notable sustainability-related success indicators recorded for 2019-2020:
- After reviewing employee research topics at the College for three years, a high of 33% was sustainability-related in 2017-18
- 88% of computers, printers, tablets at Dawson are energy conservation GOLD level
- Close to 100 three-stream sorting stations have been installed that allow for recyclables, compost and waste to be separated
- Several college-wide campaigns have been undertaken to promote well-being for all, sustainably. This includes Sustainable Happiness training with Human Resources, a habitat restoration project with the Peace Centre, as well as sustainability awareness with Student Services-orientation of students.The next Board of Governors meeting will take place on April 14, 2021.
