Phys. Ed. continues keeping you healthy with Dawson Homebody

Share

The Homebody program is an initiative from your Physical Education Department. For the month of April, we will be sharing weekly workouts as well as some other health related information. We totally understand that it can be hard to complete physical movement every day. Everyone is trying to adjust to the new ‘normal’. Now that classes are back on, it seems even less feasible to be active.

Don’t panic
We will be providing you with workouts that are tailored for all levels and can be completed at home with no equipment. All you need is your body and 25 minutes. Feel free to complete either of the workouts every day to help keep you active and moving while at home. Also, don’t forget to get outside for those walks. Stay moving!

This week’s two workouts are shared on the Instagram account of Dawson College, available to all whether you have an account on Instagram or not:

Dawson Homebody Workout of the Day 1

Dawson Homebody Workout of the Day 2

If you have any questions about the workouts, feel free to email Jeff Zeidel at jzeidel@dawsoncollege.qc.ca

Meditation continues on Tuesdays and Thursdays
The second portion of the third edition of Dawson Homebody is all about meditation. Daniel Goldsmith has contributed the following information regarding meditation.

Not only is it important to move the body, it is important to listen to the body through meditation. So, why meditate? The physical, emotional, and spiritual benefits of meditation have been well documented for millennia. Ancient spiritual traditions and modern science concur that meditation is one of the best things we can do to improve our mental health.

Unparalleled opportunity
Although it may not seem like it, the current situation provides an unparalleled opportunity to practice meditation. With everything falling apart, we have the chance to examine hitherto neglected aspects of ourselves.

By focusing on our breathing and bodily sensations, we touch a part of ourselves that can dispassionately witness everything that arises. From there, we gain access to our own spontaneously arising wisdom. This leads us to cultivate compassion, and connect with others in a profound way.

Why not try it out? You have nothing to lose but your self!

Meditation is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-2:30 p.m. until the end of the semester. Everyone (including family and friends outside Dawson) is welcome: https://zoom.us/j/206402017
