Relief from Digital Eye Strain and Migraines
With the goal of promoting well-being for all students, faculty, and staff, I would like to share a computer feature that may help you. This computer feature was brought to my attention by my low-vision therapist after I became visually impaired last year. It’s called the night light feature.
This feature greatly reduces my eye fatigue and will be helpful if you suffer from digital eye strain or migraine headaches. The night light feature changes the colour temperature of your screen or, in other words, reduces the amount of blue light emitted from your screen.
What is colour temperature?

You can make the screen as warm as you like. Note: this feature is not available for faculty and staff using a VDI computer. If you have a hard drive tower (not VDI) or fully integrated VDI then simply go to your Search Toolbar here:
Type in “Night light”.
For those of you wearing blue-light cancelling glasses, you may notice that this creates a similar effect but without glasses! If you are interested, a similar feature is available on cell phones and tablets. On iPhones and iPads, look for Night Shift under Settings then Display & Brightness.
I hope this enhances your computer experience. Best wishes to all for a good semester!
