Successful Parents Night and in-person parent tours
Parents of first-year students were invited to an information session online on Sept. 7 and were offered an opportunity to tour the College and learn about our Living Campus on Sept. 15.
The info session included presentations by Environmental Science student Narcisse X, Biology teacher Brian Mader and Yanina Chukhovich of the First-Year Students’ Office. About 300 parents attended.
About 50 parents came to Dawson to see the campus for themselves.
“The parents were very interested in our services and sports and we let them know how to get their kids involved,” said Narcisse, a speaker during the info session and a tour guide. “The parents were very grateful to see the school and were very impressed with our facilities. They were also happy to take home a tree. One said it was like taking a piece of Dawson home.”
Jenn de Vera of the Sustainability Office and a tour guide said: “The parents were very happy to visit the college in person and were impressed by the many projects and initiatives. It gave them an idea of how their children can get involved through volunteering and acknowledge how lucky we are to be downtown and yet still be surrounded by so much greenery and gardens.”
Sophie La Font of the Sustainability Office said: “It went really well. Most parents seemed engaged and appreciative.”
