Kung Fu athletes bring back 22 medals from Pan Am championships

Seven athletes who train with the Wing Chun Kung Fu group VTMTL-Dawson competed at the 4th Pan American Kung Fu Championships in Toronto Aug. 3-6 and came back with 22 medals!

Congrats to the VTMTL-Dawson medallists:

Audrey-Anne St-Laurent (Social Service student): 1 gold, 2 bronze
Alice Liang (Environmental Science student): 2 gold, 1 silver
Jakob Araujo (Interactive Media Arts, Class of 2019): 3 gold, 2 bronze
Raymon Fong (Illustration and Design, Class of 1997; Faculty of 3D Animation and CGI): 1 gold
Richard Walsh (Science, 1978-1980): 2 bronze
Carlos Gentiles: 2 gold, 1 bronze
Aravindan Sridharan: 2 gold, 3 bronze

The head coach of the team is Ricky Lew, a faculty member of Physical Education.

Ricky founded VTMTL-Dawson and teaches Wing Chun evening classes on Mondays and Thursdays from 6 PM to 7:30 PM.

“This year is our 10th anniversary,” Ricky said. “Over the years, we have competed in several tournaments with great success and hope to continue to do so in the future.“

Those interested in Ricky’s Wing Chun Kung Fu can try a class for free until Sept. 22 as part of Campus Recreation’s Open House on now through Sept. 22.
