Cinema-Communications: Resist Violence fall 2016

November 30th - December 2nd, 2016

The Resist Violence event will feature works from all of the students involved in the paired Imaging Violence and Nonviolence course. Resist Violence is a two and a half day showcase of work that exposes, subverts, questions and interacts with perceptions and issues related to violence. Exposing victim blaming questions posed to survivors of sexual assault, an apology wall, portraits and stories from refugees shaken by violence in their country of origin, slam poetry, and some haiku contrasted with imagery of everyday ecocide to describe only a few of the works to be presented. Please join us in the 2nd floor cafeteria (upper atrium) November 30 (after 2 PM) to December 2nd (all day) for an experience not to be missed. Reception Dec.1 6PM (with free food!)

Project Update

The Resist Violence showcase took place November 30 – December 2nd 2016 for the first time. The event attracted many from the Dawson community and even some from the larger community (visitors from the Musee Des Beaux Arts and friends and family were also enthusiastically present). A make-shift room outside the gallery made with dividers was filled with a variety of student projects ranging from interactive web-based media to intimate storytelling and photo portraits of refugees telling stories of the violence they have been in contact with. Our vernissage saw an influx of about 60 – 70 guests who commented and exchanged regarding the work exhibited. Students worked hard to do all aspects of the event planning, promotion and presenting. Please see the images below of the event and promotional material. Photos can be found on the Inspire Solutions website http://inspire.dawsoncollege.qc.ca/resist-violence/resist-violence-f2016/#lightbox[gallery-1]/4/We also have an archive (with links to the projects) being created by student Katherine Zhang that can be found here: http://inspire.dawsoncollege.qc.ca/projects/resist-2016/
