Industrial Design: Manufacturing Field Trips

February - May 2017

The Manufacturing & Field trips course offers students the opportunity to visit manufacturers here in Quebec to learn and see first hand how products (which they design in class) will be made. This enables them to interact with manufacturers, ask questions and receive feedback pertaining to their designs, helping them grasp how designs are made in the real world.

Manufacturing companies to visit: a Foundry, an injection molding company, Plywood forming, Metal forming company and rotational molding company.

Project Update

This winter semester,  24 first year Industrial Design students had the chance to visit 4 manufacturing facilities in and around Montreal. Although students were previously lectured on the subjects of:
● Gravity die casting & Sand casting
● Rotomolding
● Sheet forming, laser cutting, enameling
● Injection molding and in-labeling molding
The student’s trip reports reveal that they have learned more during these trips than they did in their previous Manufacturing 1 course from their 1st semester.
