Industrial Design Manufacturing Field Trips 2016

February – May 2016

Industrial Design students observe, touch and learn how products are made inside local factories so they can apply this knowledge during school work and beyond.

Rotoplast: Group 1 visited the Rotational Moulding company in Farnham to see how thermoplastic products are produced. The students saw what can or cannot be moulded using this technology.  Group 2 also visited Rotoplast (2 days after). They also witnessed how a Rock-n-Roll machine is different from a Shuttle machine. Products produced at Rotoplast are Kayaks, buoys, gas tanks, chairs and light fixtures.

Rondremy: Group 1 visited a Permanent moulding and Sand Cast moulding company in Boucherville. Students were able to see molten metal poured into die cast moulds and how the sand moulds were fabricated.

JP Metal: Group 2 visited a display furniture company in Montreal East. JP Metal produce display units for high end brands such as Louis Vuitton and Chanel. They manufacture parts made of metal, wood, acrylic, cement and glass. They have state of the art multi million dollar machinery that produces the latest trends in furniture, such as LED lighting in concrete, 5-axis laser cutting and bending machines.
