KAIROS Blanket Exercise

October 4th, 2017

The KAIROS blanket exercise is a teaching tool to share the historic and contemporary relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada. Vicky Boldo, a Métis scholar and activist, will lead this exercise for History students. This activity will help students to better understand this history, and to understand their place within it.

Project Update

The KAIROS Blanket Exercise, facilitated by Metis elder Vicky Soldo, was an extremely effective pedagogical activity for two sections of Social Science students.  The student participants were able to draw links between the class material they have been thinking about all term long and the physical role playing of these histories through the KAIROS Blanket Exercise. It was an incredibly moving experience that clearly had a profound effect on the students. In our reflective talking circle that followed the exercise, it was clear that the students were drawing links between the course material and their lives - this interweaving of knowledge and real-world experience allowed our students to see how they relate to the societies and histories that they are immersed in.
