Penelope Stewart Exhibition and Print Portfolio

February 18th - March 12th, 2016

Penelope Stewart’s exhibition- Cleave a path in to the wilderness was held at the Warren G. Flowers Gallery Feb 18.- March 12, 2016. The show introduced the Dawson Community to a contemporary art practice that involved community participation. Thousands of wax leaves along with large prints of garden icons filled the gallery space. The work created a symbolic space for meditation, commemoration of loss and the complex nature of life cycles. A social engagement that was shared via appreciation and working together.

Labyrinth-a print portfolio was created by a juried group of second year Fine Arts students, Fine Arts Faculty members and Penelope Stewart. The theme of the portfolio is a furtherance of the concepts which motivated the exhibition. The fine arts students created their own visual expressions as part of Penelope Stewart’s role as a visiting artist at the college. The print portfolio creates a unique opportunity for everyone involved to receive an elegant collection of 10 prints. There will be fifteen sets of prints and the remaining five will be donated to the Dawson Fine Arts Faculty to be kept as an archive of this particular art activity as well as a beautiful collection of works that can be sold to raise funds for other projects that the department will undertake in the future.

The print project was realized thanks to the hard work and dedication of Claude Arseneault, Naomi London and Juliana Joos. The launch for the portfolio will be in the fall of 2016.
