Science and Societé 2014

October 24th - 26th, 2014

We had a total participation of 6 students participate this year. Once again, Dawson was the only
English college represented. One student will probably do his independent CE linked to the trip.
Because I did not attend the conference this year, all I have are comments from students and
teachers. Attached are some photos of Dawson students. Let me know if you need anything else.
Teacher comment:

1) Excellents ateliers cette année.
Catherine

Student comments:
1) The science conference was very interesting! We had the chance to learn about different
aspects of science related to our society. The researchers were really helpful answering all our
questions and we learned so much about their different domains. We also got the chance to meet
other students with who we shared great information regarding the science activities. I thought all
the experience was worth it.

2) As a science student, it was a wonderful opportunity to get a glimpse into some of the research
going on, and be able to engage in discussion with the researchers. As an interdisciplinary
learner, I especially appreciated how the forum focuses on the effects of science on society,
rather than just the technical aspects (which is covered in courses). Finally, as an Anglophone
hoping to improve my French, the forum was a real immersive experience. Especially this year, I
feel I became a bit more acquainted with Quebec culture, and I had the chance to meet and
exchange with other CEGEP students, who perhaps I would not have met otherwise.
Knowing how much I’ve learned from my experiences at Science et Societe, and the good times
had (Défi Neurone in particular), I hope this opportunity will continue to be available to Dawson
students in the future!
