Tekphy Conference

November 20th, 2015

The Tekphy Conference was held at Université de Montréal in Laval. All of our 3rd year students in Physical Rehabilitation were able to attend a one day conference on the use of technology in rehabilitation. This included presentations on the current use of telemedicine in rehabilitating patients who had undergone a total knee replacement, to the use of computer generated exercise programs for children (from the creator of Wixx). Students also saw how the program Jintronix with the use of computer games can help patients regain upper extremity function post stroke. There were demonstrations of how to use the Wii balance board and the Kinect to help improve balance and coordination in clients. We also saw how companies are implanting certain technologies in clothing to improve the performance of athletes. Overall, it was an exciting and informative day. All of our students found the day beneficial in their clinical education and a practical example of professional development.
