The Design Process – Alumni Work

October 12th - 27th, 2017

In the Warren Flowers Gallery from October 12th until the 28th, 2017 there will be an exhibition of alumni work that will show the various components of the design process that led to a finished project. When only photographs of completed work are seen on-line and in design magazines, there is no evidence of all the steps that were taken by the designers, their consultants, and their clients to get to that finish line.

The Interior Design teachers each selected one alumnus who have distinguished themselves with the completion of many creative and functional Interior Design and Architecture projects. The seven (7) alumni were asked to show what happens from the initial Client meeting, from inspiration, to research, to design development, to contract documents, to shop drawings, to site visits to construction sites, and then the taking of the ‘finished project’ photos.

Project Update

Interior design students viewed interior /architecture projects designed and constructed by alumni which made their class work seem more relevant. Five of the seven alumni presented their work in person and took questions afterwards. The value of this whole exercise, the physical show and the presentations, while very time consuming, was very beneficial as a teaching tool.
