Trip to Old Prison of Trois-Rivières fall 2017

October 25th, 2017

Students will visit the Old Prison of Trois-Rivières which was built in 1822-1823 and is now part of the musée québécois de culture populaire. The visit also includes a group session with an ex-convict who will describe the harsh reality of prison life in the 1970s and 1980s, just before the prison closed its doors. The visit also integrates a special activity where the students play the role of jurors in a mock murder trial. This experience will help them understand some crucial facets of our judicial system. Photo by Martin Fournier

Project Update

Students spent a full day at the Old Prison of Trois-Rivières last 25th of October, 2017, with 100 students in the Law, Justice & Society profile. They arrived on site at 10 am to depart around 3pm with a brief lunch of 40 minutes. The activity that students appreciated the most was the ex-inmate testimony given by Réjean. Students really appreciated hearing stories and anecdotes on prison life and the harsh reality of rehabilitation. The prison tour was, according to all, very interesting and suited perfectly well lectures on the transition from prisons to penitentiaries.
