Visual Arts Integration Event 2017

November 9th, 2017

The Visual Arts Program is organizing a pizza party with the intention of bringing together our 1st and 2nd year Visual Arts Program students, along with the Fine Arts Department faculty. We did this last year and it was so successful that this year’s 2nd year students have requested that we do it again because it was of great benefit to them when they were in their 1st year. Events like this help student success and program retention by creating a sense of community and mentorship amongst the students. The students also get to see their teachers in a more casual setting and this facilitates communication.

Project Update

The Pizza Party – Meet and Mingle – event for our 1st and 2nd year students was a great success.
It was held on Thursday, November 9th, from 5:30 – 7:30pm. We had almost complete participation from our 2nd year students as well as the majority of the 1st year students. There was a very convivial atmosphere where many new acquaintances were made. Several Fine Arts faculty dropped in as well.

Several 2nd year students volunteered to decorate the 1G 8 clay room where the event was held, so there were balloons and streamers which created a festive feel.

Compass Canada (catering co often used by Dawson for in-house events) provided the pizza and drinks. Leftover pizza was bundled up and taken away by the 2nd year group, with promises of sharing with the 1st year students the following day.

All of our Visual Arts program students greatly appreciated this gesture. We are hoping that this will continue to be an annual event in the future.
