Mi nombre es Yessica Lizbeth Vergara. Yo estudié la licenciatura en Intervención Educativa en la Universidad Pedagógica Nacional en Cuernavaca, Morelos. Durante mi carrera participe en un proyecto llamado Planteles Educativos Sustentables: Compartiendo saberes. Desde el inicio me enamoró la manera de trabajar de todas las personas de México y Canadá involucradas. En un principio, se veía la posibilidad de visitar Canadá y conocer algunos de los proyectos del Dawson College. A mi, esa idea me emocionaba y mientras más conocía de los proyectos más me entusiasmaba con la idea de algún día poder visitar esta escuela. Al pasar los años y terminar mi carrera no tuve la oportunidad de ir pero lo que he aprendido en este proyecto marcó mi vida. Afortunadamente, en agosto 2016 me invitaron a participar en un simposio que se realizó en el Dawson College con motivo de realizar proyectos por la paz.

  Me emocionó mucho la idea de ir a conocer la escuela y sobre todo, el Jardín por la Paz. Ese lugar me lo imaginé durante mucho tiempo y no podía creer que por fin estaría en ese hermoso espacio. Cuando estuve en el Jardín fue maravilloso, hasta derrame unas cuantas lágrimas de felicidad. Un sueño se había cumplido y el estar allí en una fecha tan importante para las personas de Dawson, hizo que el hecho fuera mágico. Se conmemoraron diez años de la muerte de Anastasia Rebecca De Sousa estudiante del College que murio a causa de un acto de violencia. Hubo una hermosa ceremonia, llena de mucho amor. Nos invitaron a participar en el cierre liberando unas mariposas Monarcas, cosa que nunca en mi vida había hecho. La emoción en mi ser estaba a flor de piel. Me puse a pensar en que el hecho de esta conmemoración significaba una gran tristeza, pero al mismo tiempo me sentía feliz y agradecida ya que gracias a ella yo pude conocer Canadá pero sobre todo, tener un vínculo de amor con las acciones que se desarrollaron en Dawson College a partir de su muerte. Lamentablemente, a veces necesitamos que sucedan tragedias para desatar cosas maravillosas como ese hermoso Jardín por la Paz. Se perdió una vida, pero muchas otras, como la mía, cambiaron y también miles de animales, flores y plantas, hoy pueden habitar en este hermoso Jardín haciéndolo mágico e inolvidable.

En verdad, desde que llegas al Jardín, tú alma se llena de tranquilidad pero sobretodo de paz y felicidad al saber que después de una tragedia se realizó un espacio que más que paz, promueve amor. Estoy agradecida con todas las personas que permitieron que estuviera en el jardín, conocer su historia y convivir con la diversidad de especies vivas que lo habitan. Valió la pena esperar cuatro años para ver cumplido mi sueño: Conocer el Dawson College y estar en el Jardín por la Paz, especialmente el día en que se conmemoraron diez años de su creación.

A Peace Garden

My name is Yessica Lizbeth Vergara. I studied a degree in Special Education at the National Pedagogical University in Cuernavaca, Morelos. During my studies I participated in a project called Sustainable Campuses: Sharing Our knowledge. From the beginning I loved the way of working of all the people from Mexico and Canada that were involved. From the beginning there was a possibility of visiting Canada and of meeting some of the projects at Dawson College. To me, this possibility was exciting and the more I learned about the projects the more excited I got about the idea that someday I could visit this school. Years passed, I finished my career and I did not have the chance to go but what I learned from this project marked my life. Fortunately, in August 2016 I was invited to participate in a symposium for Peace held at Dawson College.

I was thrilled with the idea of visiting the school and especially the Peace Garden. I spent a lot of time imagining this place and could not believe that finally I would be there. When I was in the Garden it was wonderful. I shed a few tears of happiness. A dream had come true and to be there at such an important time for the Dawson community made it magical. A commemoration of ten years after the death of Anastasia Rebecca De Sousa. a College student who died because of an act of violence. There was a beautiful ceremony, full of love. We were invited to participate in the closing releasing some Monarch butterflies, which I had never done in my life. I was very excited. I began to think that the fact of this commemoration meant a great sadness, but at the same time I felt happy and grateful because thanks to it I was able to visit Canada but above all, have a bond of love with the actions that took place at Dawson College after her death. Unfortunately, sometimes we need to live a tragedy for wonderful things like this beautiful Garden for Peace to emerge. A life was lost, but many others, like mine was changed, like that of thousands of animals, flowers and plants today that can live in this beautiful garden making it magical and unforgettable.

Indeed, since you get to the garden, your soul is filled with tranquility but above all peace and happiness as you learn that after a tragedy a space to promote peace and love emerged. I am grateful to all the people who allowed for me to visit the garden, to know its history and see the diversity of living species that inhabit it. It was worth waiting four years to see my dream fulfilled: To know the Dawson College and to be in Peace Garden, especially the day that commemorated ten years of its creation.
